Tarantino to get French film award

media Quentin Tarantino Reuters

US filmmaker Quentin Tarantino will be presented with a special prize for his body of work next month at the César Awards, the French equivalent of the Oscars.

The awards ceremony president, Alain Terzian, said Friday that Tarantinto will be given the award as a mark of respect for "a great international artist".

Franco-Polish director Roman Polanski, who spent much of last year dodging extradition to the US on rape charges, is among the candidates for an award for his film The Ghost Writer.

Among the actors who may pick up a prize are long-standing French film favourites Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of French rocker Serge Gainsbourg, and Briton-now-resident-in-France Kristin Scott-Thomas.

US actress Jodie Foster will preside over the 36th edition of the annual awards in Paris on 25 February.
