Nota bene: The RFI Listeners Club used to be called “Club 9516”. So if you are a member of the “Club 9516”, you are already a member of the RFI Listeners Club. Your “Club 9516” membership number still works – no need to reapply. Just include your membership number on your quiz entries.

Just look at that beautiful link to the Sound Kitchen Listeners Cookbook! It actually happened! I’m very happy about it, and I hope you enjoy looking at it – and trying out some recipes. Please feel free to send in any comments you have, and we would love it if you’d send in photos – of you, and your completed dish. Don’t hesitate to use the “zoom” tool on countries where there are a lot of forks; that will separate them so you can read the titles easier. Click on the title, and the recipe will appear.

Also, if you are interested in corresponding with other Sound Kitchen listeners, let me know. I’ll figure out a way to get you together.

Today’s question was read on 17 November, and was an historical question, about David Livingstone, the first European we know of to see the Mosi -oa-Tunya - "the smoke that thunders" - waterfall. He renamed the waterfall Victoria Falls after his monarch, Queen Victoria (he was Scottish). My question to you was: where is Victoria Falls, or Mosi –oa -Tunya? You had to send in the modern names of the countries where you can see Victoria Falls.

The answer is: Zambia and Zimbabwe. It’s on the Zambezi River, which runs between the two countries. According to our friend Wikipedia, Victoria Falls is not the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, but it is claimed to be the largest – that’s because its width – 1700 meters – and its height - 108 meters – make it the largest sheet of falling water in the world.

The winners
this week are: Someone from Zambia, of course! That someone is Mr Humphrey C. Phiri, who lives in Lusaka, the country’s capital. The other winners are: Mrs. Shaheen Yousuf from Karachi, Pakistan; M. N. Sentu, from Rajshahi, Bangladesh; Ms Chitturi Sowmya, from Hyderabad, India, and Mr. Aaron Williams, from Monrovia, Liberia.

Congratulations, winners!

This week’s question is a Christmas question. It’s about the fourth century Saint Nicolas, who was a real person, as saints are. But legends grow up around these real people, and there are several Nicolas legends. I want you to send in the story about Saint Nicolas which inspired gift-giving at Christmas – what did Nicolas of Myra (which is in modern-day Turkey, by the way) supposedly do which has become the Christmas tradition for all who celebrate it?

Send in your answer by 21 January, and tune in on 26 January to see if you are one of the lucky winners. As always, be sure you send your postal address in with your answer, your RFI Listeners Club membership number if you have one … and be sure and tell me if you are a Mr. or a Mrs. or a Ms. or a Miss – I don’t want to get it wrong!
