This week’s quiz: On 20 December, I asked you a question about climate change. A “name and shame” agreement - an agreement which relies largely on global peer pressure – had just been signed by almost 200 nations, at an international summit in Peru. Every nation that signed on agreed to enact domestic laws to reduce carbon emissions, and to put forth a plan which details how much their country will cut fossil fuel emissions after 2020, and how. The plans are to be ready by 31 March. There are no legally binding requirements that countries cut their emissions by any particular amount. It is the first time that all nations rich and poor have agreed to cut back on burning oil, gas and coal.
My question to you was: which are the five most polluting countries? You were to send in the names of the largest producers of CO2 emissions worldwide in 2014.
The answer is: China, the U-S, India, the Russian Federation, and Brazil.
