Hello everyone!

Welcome to The Sound Kitchen. You can catch the programme on-the-air every Saturday at 6:15, 7:15, 14:45 and 16:45 universal time. You’ll hear the winner’s names announced and the week’s quiz question, along with all the other ingredients you have grown accustomed to: your letters and essays, “On This Day”, quirky facts and news, interviews, and great music … so be sure and tune in every Saturday.

For our DX enthusiast friends: Our shortwave frequency is 9675 kHz on the 31m band, from 06.00 to 07.00 UT every day. We’ve had reception reports from Algeria, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Russia, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US, and although the frequency is “aimed” (or however that works) towards the African continent, give it a try. You never know … and be sure and send us your reception reports. Maybe we can get more time, which would be wonderful.

You can also hear our programs on WRMI (http://www.wrmi.net/) and WRN (http://www.wrn.org/listeners/). These broadcasters diffuse our programs out of the goodness of their hearts, but unless you tell us how you heard us, we have no way of knowing … so do write and tell us how you listen to us.

This week’s quiz: On 11 March, I asked you a question about the French presidential election. You were to tell me which two French presidential candidates are under investigation for alleged embezzlement of public funds.

The answer is: François Fillon, of the center-right Les Républicans party, and Marine Le Pen, of the far-right National Front party.

Both François Fillon and his wife Penelope Fillon are under formal investigation.

Fillon is charged with misuse of public funds. Fillon allegedly paid approximately  900,000 euros in public funds to his wife as his parliamentary assistant, for work she allegedly did not do. He is also accused of using public money - 84,000 euros, to be exact - to pay two of his children for legal work, when they were still students, and not qualified lawyers.

Penelope Fillon is being prosecuted for embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds, and aggravated fraud.

They both deny any wrong-doing.

For Mme Le Pen: The European parliament has accused her – she is a member of the European Parliament – of using European parliament staff allowances to pay for National Front party employees (including a personal bodyguard).

The European Parliament has demanded Le Pen pay back over 340,000 euros. Faced with her refusal to repay the money, the European Parliament has said it will start docking her salary in order to recover the funds.

The winners are: Steven Antony Oselle of the Kumi Central RFI Listeners Club in Kampala, Uganda; RFI Listeners Club member Samuel Francis from St Catherine, Jamaica; Mrs Amina from the RFI Fan Club in Naogaon, Bangladesh; Yaw Agyaako Attuah from Kumasi, Ghana and Mishmal Kawanza from Windhoek, Namibia – Mishmael sent his answer in to The Sound Kitchen mobile phone, which you can do, too.
