'Sweet as Broken Dates' compilation reveals the golden age of Somali pop

It's hard to imagine in war-torn Somalia, but in the 1970s and 80s the east African country had a vibrant pop music culture with bars and clubs flourishing in Mogadishu and Hargeisa. That golden age of "swinging Somalia" has been captured on the compilation Sweet as Broken Dates: Lost Somali Tapes from the Horn of Africa. Vik Sohonie from New-York based Ostinato Records talks to RFI about uncovering the treasure chest.
