Transglobal Underground was formed as a music collective 25 years ago in London, providing a ground-breaking platform for many cultures from Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. Its latest compilation album Direction Overground celebrates its longterm relationship with original vocalist Natacha Atlas whose own solo career has spanned oriental music, electronica and jazz.
Performing at the recent Aventuriers festival near Paris, Atlas and drummer Hamid Mantu talk to RFI about riding high on a wave of nostalgia for 90s bands, and why it's more important than ever to communicate between cultures.
