Hello everyone! Welcome to The Sound Kitchen weekly podcast, published every Saturday. You’ll hear the winner’s names announced and the week’s quiz question, along with all the other ingredients you have grown accustomed to: your letters and essays, “On This Day”, quirky facts and news, interviews, and great music … so be sure and listen every week.

I have a favor to ask of our women listeners. International Women's Day is on 8March, and we want to do the same thing with International Women's Day as we did with World Radio Day – put your voices on the air. We’ll play your voice recordings on both "Paris Live PM" - our afternoon news program - and of course, right here in The Sound Kitchen.

You can record on your phone and then send the file to me at thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr   Use the file extensions Mp3 or WAV.

Say something about what it means to you to be in the world today as a woman ... or just say hello, give your name and country, and say "Happy International Women's Day!".

I don't know if you noticed, but every single listener who sent in a recording for World Radio Day was a man! Not a single woman's voice did we have !!! Sisters, we need to change that, and no better day for doing it than our day, International Women's Day.

I would also like to hear from you about your little moments of joy. Small, daily things: a beautiful sunset, a baby’s laugh. Add that as a very nice ingredient to our communal cooking – let’s share the joy! In these crazy times, we all need it … write to me at thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr

“My Favorite Music” is our new musical segment on The Sound Kitchen. This is our last week of your favorite songs sung by a male singer, and now we move onto our next adventure: your favorite song by your favorite band. We’ll listen to those requests throughout March and April. Be sure you share why the song and the band are important to you. Every week I’ll play one of your suggestions, and then we’ll change to instrumental, film, your children’s favorites … so to your pens! Write to me at thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr, and be sure you include your city and country in your note – along with a link and a short translation, if you can. I think it is quite nice to share your favorite music as well as your thoughts about it – thanks to Daniel Singleton, the RFI English Head of Service, for the idea!

This week’s request is from Rakesh Rao from Chennai, India. Rakesh requested “Daddy Cool”, sung by Boney M.

This week’s quiz: On 19 January, I asked you a question about Bahrain. In order to find the answer, you had to listen to RFI English journalist Anne – Marie Bissada’s monthly podcast, Mid-East Junction. The title of her January program was “Retracing Bahrain’s Activism”, and in it Anne-Marie quoted the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, and what they revealed about political prisoners in the country. You were to tell me how many political prisoners there are in Bahrain, according to the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy.

The answer is: 4000, in a country of 1.5 million people.

The winners are: Jewel Ahmed from Sirajganj, Bangladesh; Umme Kulsom Khatun, a member of the Students Oriental Radio Club in Murshidabad, India (are you busy preparing your recordings for International Women’s Day, my sisters?); RFI Listeners Club members Nasyr Muhammad from Katsina State, Nigeria and Solomon Fessahazion from Asmara, Eritrea. From the independent RFI Listeners Club in Sheikhupura, Pakistan, there’s Muhammad Munib Khan.

Congratulations winners!

Here’s the music you heard on this week’s program: Greig: Peer Gynt: “Anitra’s Dance”; Rossini: “Duetto di due gatti” (“The Cat Duet”), sung by Montserrat Caballé and Concha Velasco; Rimsky-Korsakov: “The Flight of the Bumblebee”; “Légende Parisienne” performed by the French accordionist Marcel Azzola, and “Daddy Cool”, written by George Reyam and Frank Farian, and sung by Boney M.
