Minister for the elderly Michèle Delaunay visits a retirement home last …
A French minister has slammed a private retirement home for throwing out a 94-year-old woman because her family had failed to pay its bills. The eviction was a breach of the law and a violation of human dignity, the minister for the elderly, Michèle Delaunay, said Monday.
Management at the Villa Bonsoleil retirement home in Chaville, near Paris, said it regretted an “inappropriate decision” but pointed out that family members had been repeatedly contacted about failure to pay bills that mounted up to 40,000 euros of debt.
On Saturday retirement home employees took the woman to the home of one of her sons but found no-one in.
