The consortium of companies will now be known as Airbus after its big success, the jetliner that has picked up orders across the globe.

The announcement accompanied higher-than-expected profits and an increase the number of Airbus carriers to be built this year, from 800 to 1,000.

The name change copies that of Airbus’s main competitor, US giant Boeing, which also uses the same name for its civilian and military operations.

He says the rebranding simplifies the face of the company and signals a wider strategy of long-term growth, Howard Wheeldon, a London-based aerospace and defence analyst, told RFI

Following a failed merger with British aerospace giant BAe, EADS negotiated a reform that reduced the influence of the French and German states last November.

Each state still owns about 12 per cent of the company.
