Air France to face strikes in January

Troubled French flag-carrier Air France is to face new strikes in January. One trade union has called a stoppage for 10-13 January, calling for the dropping of disciplinary procedures against two pilots accused of involvement in a protest during which managers had their shirts torn off, while another to protect jobs has been fixed for 28 January.

The Alter pilots' union has called the three-day strike, calling for the "immediate end" of the disciplinary procedures and suspension on full pay of the pilots, accusing the company of "harassment by the threat of serious disciplinary action" for actions it says the two could not have committed.

The two are to face a disciplinary committee on 7 January.

The strike may not be very effective, since Alter has so far not managed to muster enough support to have any of its members elected to works committees.

Another union, past of the large CGT confederation, has called a strike on 28 January against planned redundancies and the use of subcontractors.

The company faces a major job-shedding programme, which led to strikes and the protest during which members of management were humiliated in October.

Sorry but the period of time connection to the operation is exceeded.
