Le Camp des Milles, France's only restored WWII camp open to public

Issued on:

The only World War II internment and deportation camp in France which is still intact opened to the public a year ago. From 1939 to 1942 about 10,000 people were interned at the Camp des Milles near Aix-en-Provence in the south. About 2,000 Jewish men, women and children were deported from there to other camps in France and then to the Nazi death camp, Auschwitz. The chair of the Foundation for the Camp des Milles for Memory and Education explains the goals of this special memorial site.
