Venezuelan opposition leader visits Paris ahead of presidential election

Issued on:

Forty-year-old Henrique Capriles, former governor of Miranda state, is challenging Venezuela's incumbent President Hugo Chavez in an election taking place on 7 October. Chavez has been in power for almost 14 years and has rallied other Latin American countries behind his anti-US banner. The campaign is going on even outside of the country. Ramon Guillermo Aveldo, a prominent opposition figure who is with Unidad, the coalition backing Capriles in the election, is visiting France. He told RFI that Venezuela would enter a new era if Chavez is voted out of power.
