The man in his 40s was detained as he was about to board a military transport plane bound for Paris's Charles De Gaulle airport, Cayenne's deputy public prosecutor Isabelle Arnal said on Friday evening.
He had 27 kilos of cocaine in his baggage, by far the largest amount seized this year in Cayenne, which serves a transit point for drugs from Latin America heading for Europe via Paris, according to Guyane 1ere TV, which broke the story.
Local police in the French West Indies will work with air traffic police and the national anti-narcotics force, which does not yet have an office in Guiana, according to Arnel.
