Year's biggest French wine auction in Hong Kong nets millions
A two-day sale of rare French wine over the weekend in Hong Kong set 145 world auction records and confirmed China as a leading wine market.

Sales altogether netted 10.5 million euros with the star lot of a case of 1990 DRC La Tache from the Domaine de la Romanee Conti collection selling for a 50,00 euros.
The auction by US house Acker Merrall & Condit featured the Don Stott Collection, one of the world’s foremost collectors of Burgundy.
The auction house’s chief executive John Kapon said the huge market response reflected the robust market in Asia for fine and rare wines.
He added it also showed how Chinese buyers were diversifying their interests which in the past were heavily dominated by Bordeaux wines.
Six rare bottles of Roumier’s 1978 Musigny sold for 43,317 euros just one of the records set over the weekend.
With 98 per cent of the lots sold, there seems no lack of demand for premium French vintages despite the eurozone crisis and rising inflation back home.
