Hello everyone!

You’ve surely noticed by now we’ve been experimenting with the Sound Kitchen recipes … on Saturdays, at 5:16 universal time, tune in to hear if you are amongst the week’s winners. The winners names are here on our website, too. Look for Short Features / Sound Kitchen Winners.

Tune in on Sundays, at 4:22, 5:52 and 7:22 universal time, for the quiz question ... and whatever else is cooking up in the Sound Kitchen.

Today’s question was read on 25 September, and was about the wife of the former head of the International Monetary Fund, and former presidential hopeful, Frenchman Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Strauss-Kahn was accused of raping a chambermaid in a posh New York hotel in May, but, eventually, the charges were dropped. The alleged victim, Nafissatou Diallo, gave contradictory accounts of what happened, and the New York prosecutor found that his office would be: “unable to credit her version of events beyond a reasonable doubt, whatever the truth may be about the encounter between the complainant and the defendant”.

After the charges were dropped against Mr. Strauss-Kahn, he returned to France, and went on television to apologize to his wife and the French people, and admit his “moral failing”. I asked you to send in the name of Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s wife.

And the answer is: Anne Sinclair.

A real “stand-by-your-man” woman – and a very rich one, too. She rented a very expensive house in a fashionable neighborhood of Manhattan so that Strauss-Khan could leave jail while he awaited trial. She is a former journalist. The couple have been married 20 years.

The winners are: Mahmuda Sultana Mitu, of Sirajganj, Bangladesh; Miriam Samanya, of Iganga, Uganda; Kanybil Noon, from Juba, South Sudan; Zenon Teles, of the Christian-Marxist-Leninist-Maoist Association of Listening DX-ers, in Goa, India, and Miss Mei-juan Zhu, from Anhui Province, People’s Republic of China.

Congratulations winners!

This week’s question is about Tunisia, and last Sunday’s polls - the first comprehensive general election to emerge from the "Arab Spring".

The elections follow the ousting of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali and his Democratic Constitutional Rally (RCD) this January, after 23 years in power. Tunisian voters are choosing 217 members for the Constituent Assembly.

My question to you is: what is the Constituent Assembly’s mandate? What is the major task for the newly-elected Tunisian Constituent Assembly?

Send me your answer by 28 November; the answer and the winners will be announced on the 4 December programme. Be sure you send your postal address in with your answer … and be sure and tell me if you are a Mr. or a Mrs. or a Ms. or a Miss – I don’t want to get it wrong!

Send your answers to:

Remember, it’s not just the quiz which wins you a prize. If your essay goes on the air, you’ll find a package in the mail from the Sound Kitchen. Write in about your community heroes – the people in your community who are quietly working to make the world a better place, in whatever way they can. I am still looking for your “This I Believe” essays, too. Tell us about the principles that guide your life … what you have found to be true from your very own personal experience. Or write in with your most memorable moment, and/or your proudest achievement.

Send your mini book reviews, your musical requests, your proverbs, your tricks for remembering things, your favourite quotations, descriptions of the local festivals you participate in, or just your general all-around thoughts to:
thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr

Include a phone number, if you can. I’d like to call you and put you on-the-air … and send you a thank-you gift for participating.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

All the best,

Susan
