Hello everyone!

You’ve surely noticed by now we’ve been experimenting with the Sound Kitchen recipes … on Saturdays, at 5:16 universal time, tune in to hear if you are among the week’s winners. The winners' names are here on our website, too. Look for Short Features/Sound Kitchen winners.

Tune in on Sundays, at 4:22, 5:52 and 7:22 universal time, for the quiz question ... and whatever else is cooking up in the Sound Kitchen.

Today’s question was read on 16 October and was about French politics. Left-leaning voters were at the polls that day to vote in a run-off for the Socialist candidate they wanted to see representing them as president. None of the initial candidates had won 50 per cent of the votes in the first round, hence the run-off. My question to you was, who were the two Socialist party candidates in the run-off?

And the answer is: Martine Aubry and François Hollande. As you surely know by now, faithful RFI listeners that you are, the winner was François Hollande, with 57 per cent of the vote. Turnout was close to three million! François Hollande is the Socialist Party candidate for the French presidency; voters go to the polls on 22 April 2012.

The winners this week are: Fansu B Janneh from Banjul, The Gambia; Muhammad Nasyr from Katsina State, Nigeria; Ms Sowmya Ganesan from Goa, India; Jean Forget of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and, last but not least, Henry Umadhay from Antique in the Phiippines.

Congratulations winners!

This week’s quiz is about Italian politics – as you already know, Italy’s economy is in trouble. The yield on Italian bonds rose to over seven per cent the week before last – that’s the rate at which Greece, Ireland and Portugal were obliged to seek bailouts from the European Union. And this does not make the EU happy, as it threatens the entire Eurozone. This past weekend Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was forced to step down and Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano appointed a new premier. Italy’s new prime minister is a respected economist and most of the country’s political parties, including Silvio Berlusconi's, approved his nomination.

My question to you is: what is the name of Italy’s new prime minister, who is tasked with implementing an austerity package, which foresees 59.8 billion euros in savings?

Send me your answer by 19 December; the answer and the winners will be announced on the 25 December programme. Be sure you send your postal address in with your answer … and be sure and tell me if you are a Mr or a Mrs or a Ms or a Miss – I don’t want to get it wrong!
