Singer Emel Mathlouthi

Issued on:

Emel Mathlouthi has been described as a new look protest singer. For years, her politically free-spirited songs remained underground in her native Tunisia. But the Jasmine Revolution brought her music quite literally into the open air, accompanying Tunisia's fight for freedom. She talks to RFI about her debut album Kelmti Horra ("My speech is free") and her fears that France's great tradition of welcoming foreign artists and musicians like her seems to be waning.
