Startijenn El-TaQa - A fusion of North African and Celtic rhythms

Issued on:

Startijenn means energy in the Breton language, and this young French band from Brittany in the north-west of France certainly live up to their name. They talk to RFI about spiking up traditional Breton folk for the younger generation, letting rip on Celtic folk instruments like the bombarde, exploring rap. For their latest project they've joined forces with Franco-Algerian singer-songwriter Sofiane Saïdi to form Startijenn El-TaQa - a surprising and successful blending of north African and Celtic rhythms. We meet the band at this year's Eurofonik Festival in Nantes.
