The Warsaw Jewish community was the largest in both Poland and Europe with a pre-war population of around 350,000. During the Second World War, the Warsaw Ghetto was the largest of all the Jewish ghettos in Nazi occupied Europe. With over 250,000 ghetto residents sent to the Treblinka extermination camp, Jewish resistance arose in 1943. During the uprising German forces entirely levelled the ghetto and it was the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.
