Man commits suicide in front of children at Paris nursery school

A man has shot himself dead in front of children at a nursery school near the Eiffel Tower in central Paris.

Police said the man in his 60s entered a hall at the school late in the morning and pointed a sawn-off gun at an adult before shooting himself.

There are around 10 children inside the hall, a police source said, adding the man went inside the school easily.

The motives and the man’s identity are unclear at this stage.

The Académie de Paris, which administers schools in Paris, said a team of psychologists has been sent to the school.

The school, on Rue Cler in the 7th arrondissement, is next to the American University of Paris and located between the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides Palace.
