US forces say they are ready to proceed with a probable military strike against Syria, as more Western and Arab countries made calls for action following last week's deadly chemical attack. France and Britain have also issued stern statements and the US received an important endorsement from the Arab League yesterday after their emergency meeting in Cairo. Syria's allies, Russia, China and Iran, have warned against any military intervention and the Syrian regime has vowed to hit back against any Western strikes.
