Sharapova loves Paris, Nadal likes fishing, Shvedova loses elegantly

Five things we learned from day 11 at Roland Garros.

• That Maria Sharapova just loves Paris. It's got something to do with sitting in cafés just inches from car fumes. Ooh la la.
• Rafael Nadal likes fishing. But the man who has hooked 10 grand slam titles has never caught anything big because you have to go early to do that.

• Nadal is frightened of his Uncle Toni. Rafa doesn't go fishing early in the morning because that's when he has to practise and if he doesn't do that Uncle Toni (his coach) might do more than carp.

• Players can be happy in defeat. Yaroslava Shvedova was all smiles after her quarter-final defeat to Petra Kvitova. Shvedova, who has battled injury, reached the last eight after playing three matches in the qualifying tournament.
• That the men's world order can be upset. In the top half of the draw, the top seed Novak Djokovic will play the third seed Roger Federer in the semi-final but in the bottom half, second seed Rafael Nadal will take on the sixth seed David Ferrer who saw off the British fourth seed Andy Muray in four sets in their quarter final.
