US Open finals: Federer vs Djokovic

Roger Federer beat his compatriot Stan Wawrinka to find himself at the US Open final against Novak Djokovic. Second seed Federer beat his fellow Swiss in three sets, 6-4 6-3 6-1, showing a superb form. But Djokovic’s victory against defending champion Marin Cilic was even more devastating: 6-0 6-1 6-2.

The 2015 US Open final will be the first for Federer since 2009. Up until now, the Swiss has won 17 Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic may win his 10th Grand Slam, and third of the year, after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

"Novak has had a tremendous year," said Federer. "There's always a lot on the line when we play."

In the match against Wawrinka, Federer got the key break point at 4-3 and broke again to lead with two sets. When he won a fifth break, the game was finished for Wawrinka. The contest lasted just 92 minutes.

Meanwhile, Djokovic is looking to win his third Grand Slam title this year. He needed only 85 minutes to trash Cilic, who was struggling with an ankle injury as well.

The showdown between the two on Sunday will be another chapter in one of the strongest rivalries in tennis history.

The players have faced each other 41 times. Federer won 21 times and Djokovic 20. This includes 13 Grand Slam matches, of which three were finals and a record nine semifinals.
Both players have beaten each other in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
