The West Indies are the defending champions and will try to become the first side to retain the trophy. England won the title in 2010 and will also be attempting to claim the crown for a second time.

England lost to the West Indies in their group match but recovered from the setback to reach the final. The West Indies – having secured their place in the semi-finals – went down to Afghanistan.

They saw off the hosts India in a pulsating semi-final in Mumbai on Thursday. England got past New Zealand

The captains of the two sides go into the clash with points to prove. England's Eoin Morgan has been out of form with the bat. He is one of only three players with two ducks in the tournament. His highest score is 27 in his five innings.

But his campaign has been salvaged by shrewd decisions. In the semi-final in New Delhi, New Zealand werea 89 for 1 after 10 overs.  Morgan introduced Moeen Ali who took the wicket of Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson and the New Zealand innings was fatally disrupted.

Darren Sammy, too, has not had a great tournament. He has batted in just two innings and bowled in one out of five matches for a combined tally of six runs and one wicket.

But he has galvanised his side and led them to their second consecutive final of the last three T20 world cups.
