Wawrinka saves match point on way to US Open last 16
Third seed Stan Wawrinka saved a match point on Saturday night during his five-set victory over the unseeded Briton Dan Evans. Wawrinka, 31, a semi-finalist in 2013 and 2015, battled back from 5/6 down in the fourth set tiebreak to clinch the game 10-8.

The two-time Grand Slam champion then cruised through the fifth set 6-2 to advance to the last 16 after four hours of play.
Wawrinka will next take on Illya Marchenko. The 28-year-old from Ukraine advanced to the last 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time when Nick Kyrgios retired from their third round match with a hip injury just after losing the third set.
Marchenko, ranked 63 in the world, said of Monday’s clash with Wawrinka. “I’ve got nothing to lose.”
Murray to last 16
The second seed Andy Murray advanced to the last 16 following an erratic performance against the Italian journeyman Paolo Lorenzi. The 34-year-old became the oldest first-time winner on the ATP tour when he lifted the trophy in Kitzbuehel in July.
The veteran served for the first set at 5-4 up but he failed to close out and Murray took the opener via the tiebreak.
Lorenzi levelled at one set all but ran out of steam as Murray rethought his strategies.
"I expected a tough match and I expected long rallies," Murray said. "I'm just disappointed with the amount of errors I made. I was quite impatient at times.
"When I did wait for the right balls to go for, I played much, much better. The unforced errors came down significantly and the winners went up.The third and fourth sets were comfortable."
The 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro swept past David Ferrer and there were also victories for the sixth seed Kei Nishikori and the 22nd seed Grigor Dimitrov.
