Two Irish climbers fell to their death when the rope they were attached to came undone.

They were attempting a 4,000 meter climb called "Giant's Tooth" on Sunday.

Two Finnish mountaineers died on Friday when they slipped and fell into a mountain crevasse. They were part of a party of four.

These incidents have re-ignited the debate of whether authorities should limit access to the mountain.

Climbers currently do not need a permit to attempt Europe's highest mountain.

The mountain attracts 30,000 climbing parties every year, most of them coming during the warmer months between June and September.

French authorities are concerned about the number of people who attempt to climb Mont Blanc and do not realize what level of experience is required.

Although it is not the world's highest mountain, at 4,180 meters it is reputed to have one of the most difficult and deadliest summits.
