A project to release the Pyrenean Ibex, native to the region for tens of thousands of years is planned for next year.

Ten male and ten female Pyrenean Ibex from Spain will initially be released in the area, with 160 introduced over seven years to rebuild the population.

The Pyrenees National Park biodiversity project is subject to a pending agreement between Spain and France and feedback from the Pyrenees people.

It follows the successful release of the Capra Ibex in the French Alps.
