The suspect and his accomplice were arrested after the killing, which took place in front of a fast-food restaurant at the main resort town of Laganas.

The victim died of knife wounds to the heart. His friends were taken to hospital with non-life threatening wounds to the back and stomach.

In a preliminary investigation, evidence showed that a dispute erupted when the taxi driver, 21, and his friend, 25, accused the young Brits of blinding them with a laser pointer.

Tens of thousands of teenage British tourists flock to Zante’s turquoise waters and cheap alcohol each year.

However, incidents are frequent, where tour operator packages promoting partying has brought criticism by Greek authorities and local residents.
