Protests force Putin election strategy rethink

Issued on:

The latest state-run opinion poll in Russia shows that Vladimir Putin will win this weekend's presidential election with nearly 60 per cent of the vote. Second place should is predicted to Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov with just over 15 per cent. For the first time billionaire tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov won third place in an opinion poll with just under nine per cent. Even though Putin is expected to win a third term in office, a series of anti-Putin demonstrations have forced him to rethink his strategy.
