Fire at Femen topless protest HQ in Paris

The headquarters of the Femen topless protesters in Paris was damaged by fire on Saturday night. The origin of the blaze was not clear on Sunday.

Police say they have no evidence of a criminal act and Femen’s leader Inna Shevchenko said Sunday that the movement don’t know how the fire started, while adding that the

movement has “many enemies who have been trying to stop us for a long time”.

A message saying "Burn witches" was sent to Femen's mobile phone on Saturday, according to another activist, Pauline Hillier, who added that the group receives death threats every day.

One room has been completely wrecked and five people were evacuated, according to police.

Shevchenko, a Ukrainian who was recently granted refugee status in France, was not present when the fire broke out at about 5.00am.

Two Femen activists, who were sleeping in the offices, tried to put the fire out but failed to do so and called the fire service, she said.

Femen opened its international headquarters and a centre for training activists in Paris earlier this year.
