Europe lifted work restrictrions for Romanian and Bulgarian citizens

Issued on:

The lifting of restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians working in several European Union countries has not been met by a flood of migrants heading west. East-West traffic is reported to have been normal since January 1st. In the UK, in particular, there have been fears of an invasion of job-seekers even though the leaders of Bulgaria and Romania have angrily dismissed such fears. But the British government has already pushed through rules to restrict access to benefits for EU immigrants. Stephen Booth, an analyst at London’s "Open Europe" think tank comments why the UK is so worried.
