Spanish mountain climbers dies in French Alps fall

media Mont Blanc Flick'r/Tom Fahy/CC

A Spanish mountain climber plummeted to his death on Sunday while scaling an arduous descent in the French Alps, according to mountain rescue workers.

The 38-year-old man, who has not yet been named, was coming down the mountain with three friends on a snowy part of Col des Ecrins, on the northwest side of the Dome des Ecrins.

The man fell a few hundred metres from this area described by experts as “long and difficult.”

His fatal fall came just days after a Russian climber died and another seriously injured on Friday after falling several hundred metres on Mont Blanc.
