Since the foundation of the Turkish republic in 1923, the country’s largest minority - the Kurds - have struggled for recognition. Their existence has been denied and language suppressed. For more than twenty years Kawa Nemir, a Kurdish poet and writer has been waging his own battle to defend the Kurdish language and culture, through his writings and translations. Correspondent Dorian Jones met him in Diyarbakir Turkey’s largest Kurdish city.
