African diaspora wants voice at AU

Issued on:

While the African Union (AU) is a chance for all 54 member states to get together to discuss the pressing issues on the continent, it's also a chance for civil society and in some cases others from outside the continent to make their voices heard. AG Hamilton-Taylor and Gorken Che-Camillo Wallen are members of a group of African disaspora from Jamaica. They explain that, regardless of the time past since the days of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, an African, no matter where he or she is in the world, cannot deny the connection to the continent. That's why they are hoping to be given status at the AU in order to have more involvement in issues taking place in the continent.
