Why this indigenous Russian tribe feels let down by COP21

Issued on:

A new, vast conservation area was set up in Russia’s Far East at the start of November - some 4-hundred kilometres North-East of Vladivostok. The Bikin national park covers more than 10,000 square kilometres and protects the local Udege tribe from logging in the area. It’s a ray of hope for Russian conservation - but it only covers part of Udege lands. Now representatives say they’ve been let down by the Paris COP21 global climate change negotiations - because they exclude boreal forests which are key to the community’s traditional livelihood. RFI's Moscow correspondent, Thomas Lowe reports.
