After Thursday’s unanimous decision in Belgium to ban the burka, politicians in France continue to debate the proposal, while the head of the ruling UMP party has outlined his plans for the ban: a 150 euros fine for women wearing it, and/or a 15,000 euros fine for men forcing women to wear it. The proposal also included provision for so-called “citizenship training” which is aimed at “refreshing republican values, respect and human dignity”.
