Apitchapong Weerasethakul

Winner of the 2010 Palme d’Or

Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

“I feel strange, because honestly I didn’t expect this privilege, the prize. To be here among these great filmmakers is already an achievement for me. And to get this prize - this high prize - is very surreal.

"Because when we shot the movie in [a] remote area in Thailand with very hard condition. So when we came to Cannes with the glamour and all these beautiful cars and it's such a different world.

"Just to have this prize, it's another world for me. It’s another level of reality that I think I need time to reflect on it and what it means to me and my career. Anyway, it's an amazing shock."

Mathieu Amalric

Best Director

Tournée (On Tour)

"I had no idea I was going to win this prize. They really know how to create suspense... it was really complicated. They call you at 12.30 - what do I do with the kids?. Take a plane. Two girls were in London and they arrived at 6.20pm and 'k-h-woooooh' they came back, last moment. And you don't know which prize your gonna have."

Juliette Binoche

Best Actress

Copie Conforme (Certified Copy)

"It feels wonderful. ... I feel blessed and very thankful with Abbas Kiarostami with the director of my film. You know there were some difficult times... like the weather! When it was so hot, you wonder how you are going to remember anything when you have windows closed and you can’t put the airconditioning on and you've got to do a 12-minute scene... this kind of crazy situation you always remember."

Mahmet-Saleh Haroun

Le Prix du Jury

Un homme qui crie (A Screaming Man)

"My happiness is so big... I can't believe it. I thought that Tim Burton used to make other films and the kind of film I'm making he's maybe he's not interested in. And the fact is we were wrong, he just loves cinema. Tim Burton loves cinema!"

Elio Germano

Joint Best Actor

La Nostra Vita (Our Life)

"I'm happy to represent Italy because the cinema of Italy is one of the best in the world. I would like this message [that this award represents] to get through to the authorities so that they give Italian cinema more support."

Javier Bardem

Joint best Actor

Biutiful

"I think this award is for the movie. I mean, I'm in every frame of it... I'm very proud of it, and I hope that this means people will go to the cinema to see it. I think that we should share the prizes more often, then more people win! I'm very honoured that a Spanish and an Italian actor are sharing the same prize."
