The darker side of football
Philip Turle investigates one of the darker sides of football. The financial ruin of many African families who pay bogus agents to take their sons to France following promises of a bright career in football and a contract with a major club. In most cases, once they arrive in Europe the children are abandoned and the agent disappears with the money.
The programme meets a victim and also talks to associations which have been created to help them as well as to the author of a book on the subject by former French high jump champion Maryse Ewanje-Epée.
