An ad campaign featuring Asterix and his mates feasting in a McDonald's restaurant has irked French comic purists. They say their favourite childhood character embodies French values of good food and hedonism, something the US restaurant chain does not. Publishers maintain Asterix is still a rebel and does not defend la malbouffe or bad food.
