Less than a third of French people now support President Nicolas Sarkozy as he struggles with the fallout from a series of foreign policy missteps. Foreign Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie is unwelcome in Tunisia and statements insulting the Tunisian press by the new French ambassador, Boris Boillon, have further strained relations. Meanwhile, an anonymous group of high-level French diplomats are criticising Sarkozy for "amateurishness," and "impulsiveness".
