The owner of the club refused to comment when contacted by RFI and the soft pink website makes no mention of a temporary shutdown but posts a message of thanks for the “support” it has received.

Police are investigating reports that it is at the centre of a prostitution ring, and three people have been detained according to France Info.

Les Chandelles is said to be frequented by numerous celebrities and the French newspaper Libération quotes one of the investigation team saying "It's not some yobs club, it's DSK's club"

When the spotlight was turned on Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s private life last year, rumours that he visited the club resurfaced.

Police began an investigation following reports that former footballer Alim Ben Mabrouk was involved in a prostitution ring at the Chandelles.

Subsequent surveillance revealed that genuine swingers tended to frequent the club at weekends while during the week some men appeared to be visiting the club with prostitutes to avoid paying hotel bills.
