A year ago France's law against covering your face in public came into force. It has turned women wearing the full-face veil, or niqab, into outlaws. The French ministry of the interior says police stopped and checked some 354 women over the last year and 299 reports were filed, resulting in around 20 fines of up to 150 euros. While the interior ministry says the law had been applied carefully, those on the receiving end tell a different story. Sociologist and filmmaker Agnès de Féo, the author of several works on the niqab, and Lila Sitar, founder of Les Amazones de la Liberté group which seeks to get the law repealed, look at a year of the burka ban.
