French protests on two year Syria war anniversary

A second day of protests have been held in Paris on Saturday denouncing the Syrian regime and criticising the inaction of the United Nations as part of the second anniversary of the outbreak of the civil war.

“Bashar, get the hell out, Syria is not yours,” chanted hundreds of demonstrators waving Syrian flags at la Place de la République.

“Why is the UN Security Council and the international community remaining silent in the face of ongoing massacres being carried out by the Al-Assad regime?” read a banner on a truck leading the procession.

Protesters paid tribute to 38 year-old French photographer, Olivier Voisin who was killed in February while on assignment in Syria.120 other journalists and photographers also killed in the conflict were remembered via a banner that read, "The eye of truth is eternal."

Amnesty International, as well as the French left, New Anti-Capitalist Party took part in the procession, a day after thousands of people called for the Assad regime to halt violence at a previous rally in Paris.

At least 70,000 have been killed in the Syrian conflict since it began 15 March 2011.
