France issues rabies warning for first time since 2008
French authorities have issued a rabies warning after a cat died of the disease earlier this week near Paris. The two-month old black and tan kitten was found last Friday in Argenteuil and died three days later from the disease, previously thought to have been eradicated in the country.

France’s Ministry of Agriculture has launched an investigation and ten people have so far been vaccinated as a precaution.
In 2001, France was declared rabies-free, however its status was suspended for two years in 2008 after a dog imported from Morocco infected other dogs.
Rabies can be fatal if left untreated. There have been no human cases in mainland France since 1923.
The French Ministry of Agriculture has set up a hotline (+33 8 11 00 06 95) for anyone concerned about the disease.
