With a severe shortage of social housing in the Paris region in particular, an increasing number of people, including families, are taking to squatting empty buildings. By law they can be evicted, even during the winter period. Housing associations say this is inhumane, not least because Paris and its region has 300,000 empty flats and 700 000 m2 of empty office space.
