France’s PSA Peugeot Citroen stops the cars and turns on the music

Issued on:

French car manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroen is having a hard time due to the economic downturn in the eurozone. The slump in car sales has led to closures and a wave of redundancies. Last weekend car production in the Saint Ouen plant just north of Paris ground to a complete halt. But it was no cause for tears. Some 3,000 people flocked to the factory to hear employees, choristers and musicians perform Intimité by French composer Nicolas Frize. This unique musical creation is the fruit of Frize’s two-year residency at the plant, where he lent his ear to the sounds of the factory and its workers. The aim? To show work, especially manual work, has value.
