The French weather institute issued warnings of extreme weather condition that will affect the country.

"The storms are accompanied by violent winds in the strongest cells, intense electrical activity, high intensity rainfall and hail," it said.

It also issued warnings about vineyard damage that could occur as a result of hailstorms. The Rhone Valley in the south of Burgundy and Jura were included in this warning.

An 84-year old man died on Friday morning as a result of high rising waters in Pyrénées- Atlantiques.

Wind speeds of 90 to 100 km/h are expected in beachfront departments of Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône.

There is also a risk of coastal flooding due to high waves.
