France's first 'citizens windfarm' likely to spawn copies

Issued on:

More than 70% of France’s electricity is produced in nuclear plants and last year just under 4% was produced on windfarms, for the most part by multinationals. But the local community in the small town of Béganne in south Brittany has challenged France's highly centralised energy system and set up the country's first citizens' windfarm. After more than a decade's struggle, the Béganne windfarm was inaugurated in june this year and other towns are now inspired to do the same.
