In Paris, the demonstrators, which consisted of adults and children, waved pink and blue flags as they marched from Porte Dauphine to Montparnasse.
Around one thousand policemen were mobilised for the demonstration in the French capital.
According to Ludovine de la Rochere, president of Manif Pour Tous that organised the demonstration, such techniques must be "fought at all costs.”
Manif pour Tous had fought against the adoption of same-sex marriage in France last year.
However, President Francois Hollande defied the protests and in April 2013, France became the 14th country worldwide to legalise same-sex marriage.
An Ifop poll for the Atlantico website on Sunday showed that less than a third (31 percent) of French people were behind the values of the demonstration.
In order to counter the Manif Pour Tous protest, the "All Out" gay rights organisation has called for a demonstration "for equality of all couples and families".
