France is calling for volunteers to fight against the Ebola virus, asking health professionals to travel to regions currently experiencing the outbreak.

Dossier: Ebola outbreak 2014

In Paris on Thursday, France's Director General of Health, Benoit Vallet, encouraged health professionals to volunteer in West Africa.

Last week, the country said it had agreed to build a new treatment centre in Guinea, meaning that France needs to send doctors and health specialists to help detect and treat the disease.

At the conference, Vallet noted:

"We are looking for volunteers in France who work in the field of epidemiology. We need them to detect possible Ebola infections. This is essential because we need to quickly isolate those who are infected with the virus. We also need care workers in order to help in the treatment centres. But we also need people who can take care of organisational and logistical aspects."

Vallet also stressed that measures should be put into place as rapidly as possible.
